Job Description:

This position is responsible for all of Wildlife Safari’s summer day camps including our Pint-Sized Explorer, Discover and Adventure Camps. The Education Assistant will work with the Education Department to develop and implement all summer educational programs.

Duties include but are not limited to: husbandry and handling of the education animal collection; creating curriculum for and running the zoo camp program; conducting guided tours, overnight camps, and educational outreach presentations; helping with the Junior Zookeeper Program, and onsite public talks.

Education and Experience Requirements:

-Bachelor’s degree or currently obtaining a degree in a field complementary to Wildlife Safari’s mission; Zoology, Wildlife Biology, Conservation Education, Environmental Education, or related field

-Experience as a formal or an informal educator or interpreter

-Experience working with children of a variety of ages a must

-Animal experience preferred but not required

-Must be willing to work overnight camps

-Able to speak to the public both individually and in a presentation setting

-Good people skills

-Personal vehicle and valid driver’s license

-Negative TB test

-Ability to work 40 hours a week

-Required to work outdoors and indoors in extreme weather conditions; ability to lift up to 50 (fifty) pounds.

-Must be able to pass a drug test

This is a temporary, full-time position.  Start and end dates range from end of May to mid-Sept and are flexible.  Applications will be accepted until position is filled.
