Tribal Department: Natural & Cultural Resources

Job Summary: The Field Biologist position will assist in the implementation of natural resources research, monitoring, management, and protection projects within the Tribes “Usual and Accustomed” area to protect and preserve the Tulalip Tribes treaty resources and aid in salmonid population status and trends monitoring efforts. This work includes sampling of juvenile salmon outmigrating in the Snohomish River estuary primarily through the use of beach seine and fyke netting equipment; Working on the rotary smolt traps on the Skykomish and Snoqualmie Rivers; Conducting electrofishing sampling and spawner surveys; and other related work i.e. habitat surveys, vegetation surveys, sediment surveys, water quality monitoring. The eligible candidate will assist with data collection, database creation, maintenance and management, reporting results, basic budget analysis, and supervision of project staff during field data collection. Experience with fish identification, particularly the identification of juvenile salmonid species in various stages of development, and small boat operating experience and expertise strongly preferred. Performs other duties as requested by Tribal management. Some program components may require coordination with other Tribal departments that have overlapping interests. Responsibilities also include implementing Tribal personnel and procurement policies.

Compensation: $26.79 hr.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Fisheries, Biology or related field

Experience:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in the field of fisheries biological sciences or natural resources management
  • Experience with fish sampling and fish identification

Prerequisites:

  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License.
  • Must adhere to the Tribal Insurance Policy (Driver’s Abstract Required)
  • The position requires working in varied conditions, from office surroundings to difficult environmental field conditions with the ability to pass an agility exam, determining physical capability to perform essential job duties required.
  • The Tulalip Tribes requires different levels of pre-employment background screening for all positions. Employment is contingent upon successful passing of these background checks.

Terms of Employment: This is a Regular Full-Time position requiring 40 hours per week or 2080 hours per year
