Assistant Science Instructor- EcoKayaking Program

EcoKayaking is a cutting-edge environmental education program run as a three-way partnership between Tacoma Public Schools, MetroParks Tacoma, and Foss Waterway Seaport. Seventh grade students from Jason Lee Middle School’s THRIVE program come to the Seaport every school day to receive combination kayaking and science instruction.

Specific duties and activities will include, but may not be limited to the following:

  • Assist the Foss Waterway Seaport’s Director of Education, EcoKayak lead instructor and Jason Lee Science staff to instruct for the science portion of the 7 week EcoKayak program
  • Provide on-water and on-land support and assistance to the students participating in the class
  • Guide the students in science inquiry, design and implementation of small projects
  • Facilitate the presentation of project findings to their cohort and others from the Seaport, Jason Lee Middle School, and the community

It is expected that detailed documentation of curriculum, successes, challenges and suggestions for improvement will be provided to the Seaport Director of Education at the end of this project.

This program serves a diverse student body. People of color are strongly encouraged to apply.
