Job Summary:

The Environmental Scientist will join the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe’s Environmental Program team in the Natural Resources Department to provide support for natural and cultural resource protection, restoration and management. The Environmental Scientist will be responsible for managing the Tribe’s Water Quality Program and Brownfields Response Program and will provide technical assistance with a variety of projects related to the protection and restoration of resources within the Tribe’s usual and accustomed area.

Duties Include:

  • Managing the Tribe’s Water Quality Program including monthly monitoring of Reservation streams, water quality data management and reporting.
  • Managing the Brownfields Response Program including implementing assessments and remedies for potentially contaminated sites and reporting regularly on progress.
  • Providing technical assistance for Natural Resources Damages Assessment processes including participating in damage assessments and restoration planning.
  • Reviewing and commenting on a variety of local project proposals and permit applications to assess the potential for impacts to tribal resources and treaty rights.
  • Assisting with the development of natural resource planning and management on tribal lands, including opportunities for habitat restoration.
  • Working with the tribal community and public to increase awareness of environmental issues.
