Summary of Duties

Under the direction of the Noxious Weed Specialist II positions, Inspectors conduct field survey for noxious weeds, research ownership of infested properties and records inspections and contact with land owners.  Inspectors will post properties and apply approved herbicides as assigned.  Ability to conduct noxious weed surveys from a car and perform surveys and herbicide applications on foot over terrain of varying difficulty, including steep areas and dense vegetation is required. Special projects require 3-4 consecutive days of applying herbicides with a 4 gallon back pack sprayer.  Provides one-on-one noxious weed education and information to the public and follows up on complaints of noxious weed infestations.  Refers non-compliance to the Noxious Weed Specialist II.  Work involves exposure to traffic hazards due to driving, as well as physical ability to walk road right-of-way, fields and shorelines, etc.  Requires the ability to bend and pull noxious weeds.  Field work is performed outside in full range of weather conditions.  Overtime is not a guarantee, but may be required.

These temporary/seasonal positions generally work 40 hours per week.  Estimated duration is April 1st – September 30th, depending on growing season.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently, tactfully and courteously with the public and be reliable for attendance and completing assigned tasks accurately and efficiently.
  • Must have a current Washington State Driver’s License.
  • WSDA Public Pesticide Operator License with any of the following endorsements:
    • Aquatic
    • Agricultural Weed
    • Ornamental Weed
    • Right-of-way Weed

Applicants who do not currently possess a current Washington State Pesticide Operator License will have the opportunity to become certified prior to hire.Desired Skills

  • Experience in vegetation management or weed control.
  • Knowledge of Washington State Noxious Weed Control Law.
  • Good plant and weed identification skills.
