Teacher Assistant Needed for Intercity Transit’s Earn-A-Bike Program
If you like to ride bicycles and work with kids, consider working with Intercity Transit’s Earn-A-Bike program. This after-school program fosters youth development and healthy, active transportation by teaching students basic bicycle maintenance and on-the-road riding skills.
What: You will work with our staff to teach middle-school students transit-oriented riding skills and bike mechanics.
When:
- April 23th to June 13th, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2pm – 6pm
- July 9th to July 26th, Tuesdays to Fridays, 12pm – 5pm
Pay Rate: $12.50/hour, 8-10 hours per week (18-20 hrs/wk in July)
Where:
- Tumwater Middle School in spring,
- Downtown Olympia in July
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Load and unload bicycles and other equipment and materials.
- Prepare parking lot for drills and workshops. Co-facilitate skill-building games and drills.
- Lead group of students on traffic-skills rides. Help lead on-street drills that focus on safe cycling practices and techniques.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Patience, reliability, and punctuality.
- Experience working with youth.
- Able to follow directions and work well in a group.
- Experience riding a bicycle in traffic and being outside, rain or shine.
- Bike mechanic experience is helpful, but not necessary.
- An interest in youth empowerment and/or alternative transportation (bus/bike/walk).
