Natural Resource Analyst (Seattle, WA)
POSITION PURPOSE
The Natural Resource Analyst provides support in sourcing and analyzing new business development opportunities for Green Diamond and related entities. The incumbent will be expected to conduct various forms of analysis including investment modeling, high quality research, and analysis of industry, markets, competitors, and new business opportunities. He/she will also play a significant role part in vetting and managing strategic partnerships and other collaborations.
It is expected that the Natural Resource Analyst will maintain an independent and objective perspective in support of operations and company growth opportunities. Job responsibilities will require frequent interaction with members of the senior management team, the finance team and operating managers in the divisions.
This is a fulltime regular position working out of the Seattle, WA office. This position reports directly to the Manager of Business Development.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (other duties may be assigned)
- Participate in the analysis and underwriting of land-use decisions and business development opportunities, both at the corporate and division level, including conservation transactions and non-timber related opportunities, such as renewable energy projects, biomass, forest carbon, mitigation banking.
- Prepare financial and strategic analysis in support of potential management actions, primarily related to new business opportunities and, as requested, in support of operations or land transactions. Dimension potential operational and market risks related to the opportunities.
- Prepare presentation material for discussion with management, the Board of Directors and special meetings; assemble presentation packages from multiple sources to develop and produce crisp, concise memoranda.
- Represent the Company to prospective partners and co-investors in new business opportunities. Vet these parties for alignment and structure relationships.
- Manage relationships with current and prospective partners including conservation NGOs, renewable energy project developers and others.
- Review contracts for appropriate business terms and implications.
- Monitor changing regulatory frameworks and policies at the local, regional and national scale.
- Provide analytical, due diligence and market research support for strategic initiatives as requested.
- Work with local managers to ensure alignment in land use priorities and land use regulations.
- Respond to ad hoc requests for industry information and analysis.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Forestry or Business required. Advanced degree in Environmental Management or similar program, with a joint MBA preferred and could substitute for years of experience.
- Minimum 2 to 3 years analytical experience in forestry, conservation, renewable energy, carbon, or other natural resource or real assets industry.
- Project management and/or project finance experience preferred.
- Thorough-understanding of financial concepts, investment evaluation methodologies and terms (e.g. discounted cash flow analysis, capital decision making criteria, cost of capital etc.).
- Exposure to financial modeling process; advanced personal computer skills required, particularly in Excel.
- Interest in and basic understanding of emerging market-based mechanisms to value ecosystem services (carbon, mitigation banking etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to function in a team environment and influence others not in a direct reporting relationship; project management experience a plus.
- Ability to identify pertinent information required by decision makers and make clear, concise recommendations based on facts and data.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIORNMENT:
- This position is located in the Seattle Corporate Office. Normal office environment with moderate noise levels, occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs., regular walking, sitting, bending, twisting, standing and reaching.
- Travel required to operating divisions to meet with employees and maintain visibility, requiring ability to drive an automobile, walk through forested areas, across uneven terrain and unpaved roads.
- Ability to perform consistent work on a PC.
- This position is a Physical and Mental Requirement Classification 1.
