The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is seeking an experienced GIS technical specialist to join the GIS Services team in the Transportation Data, GIS and Modeling office in Tumwater, WA. As a GIS technical specialist, you will be joining a team that:
- Provides GIS project consulting and technical training.
- Provides GIS Helpdesk support for users of ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Enterprise.
- Produces custom geospatial data analysis, maps, datasets and reports for the agency.
- Creates and stewards web geospatial products. Typical products include: cartographic map products, interactive map applications, ArcGIS Online content, and ArcGIS Server-based map services.

This position will perform the following work:
- Provide one-on-one software assistance and consultation as needed and work with other business areas to integrate geospatial technologies into the workflow.
- Provide Tier 2 GIS helpdesk support including resolving requests from GIS users, GIS application support, troubleshooting, and software testing and evaluation.
- Identify and document software bugs, and work with software vendors to identify solutions.
- Produce custom geospatial data analysis, maps, datasets and reports for the agency.
- Create and steward web geospatial products including pdf map products, interactive map applications, ArcGIS Online content, and ArcGIS Server-based map services.
In order to be considered, a candidate must possess:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Geography, Computer Science, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Natural Science or related field. Four (4) years of professional level work experience may substitute for educational requirement.
- Nine (9) semester hours of GIS coursework.
- Three (3) years of recent experience using Esri ArcGIS software products.
- Technical writing and presentation skills.
An ideal candidate will also possess the following:
- Experience with relational database systems.
- Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise.
- Working knowledge of cloud-based technologies.
- Working knowledge of WSDOT’s Linear Referencing System (LRS).
