GSRC unleashes youth leadership for community resilience to a changing climate and cultivates a campus culture of sustainability. This pursuit informs our students’ academics, career choices, and ways of life. As the University of California steps up as a global force for climate action, GSRC enables UC Irvine students to shape this legacy. The GSRC is a hub for students, providing resources, education, and programming to forward environmental balance, economic vitality, and social equity. Students, as well as campus and community partners, are invited to share a platform from which to address the root causes of ecological disruption, deepen understandings of the interdependence of all life, and engage the challenges and solutions of sustainability in a campus, community, and global context.

GSRC is anchored by a physical Resource Center offering a host of student services. Students come into GSRC via affirmative outreach programs, internship/fellowship placements, and the programming pathways: Training, Campus as a Living Laboratory, and Global Engagement and Immersion.

GSRC relies on a host of campus partners within Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, the Office of Sustainability, and student-led organizations to do our work. A key partner, Student Housing, extends GSRC programming explicitly into the student residential experience. The GSRC is a project of UCI Community Resilience and a collaborator with the Community Resilience Co-Lab. UCI Community Resilience cultivates shared understanding of ways that the problems of and solutions to climate change, racism and all social injustice, economic inequality, and our challenged democracy are connected. Students, faculty, staff, and community collaborators involved with UCI Community Resilience work together to design projects that are aimed at meaningful exchange, education, research, and action for social transformation.

The Director of UCI Community Resilience Projects in the Office of Sustainability provides direction, support, and mentoring to GSRC-affiliated staff. The Housing Sustainability Program Manager provides co-leadership in the development of GSRC programs and is a stakeholder in the operations of the GSRC. Under the supervision of the Housing Sustainability Program Manager, the Program Coordinator is responsible for initiating, assessing, planning, and delivering ongoing innovative programming, resources, and services that serve the campus and community. The Program Coordinator assists in the design and implementation of an outreach and engagement strategy to enhance student awareness of and leadership in sustainability initiatives at UC Irvine as well as increase a shared analysis of the intersections among environmental, racial, and social injustice through this work. The Program Coordinator works closely with student leaders, faculty, staff, and community partner colleagues in delivering the highest quality co-curricular experience.
