The NW Energy Coalition is an alliance of over 100 environmental, civic and human service organizations, progressive utilities and clean energy businesses in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and British Columbia. We promote the development of renewable energy, energy efficiency, consumer protection, equitable and affordable clean energy services for all consumers, and fish and wildlife restoration on the Columbia and Snake rivers.
Energy policy is critical to the Northwest’s economic and environmental health. The Coalition ensures that utilities, state governments, and the region pursue clean and affordable energy strategies to meet energy needs and reduce climate pollution. The Coalition is committed to addressing the equity impacts of the existing and future energy system and the need for more inclusive decision-making as part of ensuring that the benefits of a clean energy economy accrue to all in our communities.
This position is located at our downtown Seattle office in the historic Colman building.
Job description:
The development manager is responsible for maintaining and increasing funding via foundation funding, major donors, individual donations, sponsorships, and corporate partnerships by:
- Researching and identifying potential foundations and managing the grant proposal and reporting process.
- Cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors and sponsors at all levels, particularly major donors, to broaden the Coalition’s funding base and diversify our donors.
This person will work closely with the executive director, board development committee, and Coalition staff.
Principal duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:
Foundation grant fundraising (40%)
- Track grant proposal and report timelines/deadlines.
- Collaborate with Coalition staff to write grant proposals and reports.
- Research new prospects, create a pipeline of potential foundation funders, develop Letters of Interests and proposals
Donor and sponsorship outreach and cultivation (30%)
- Lead strategies to identify, cultivate and engage existing donors and sponsors, and to develop new prospects.
- Develop and implement existing and new strategic corporate donor/partner campaigns.
- Develop donor communication materials.
Event management and support (20%)
- Work with outreach and communications staff to develop special fundraising events; solicit sponsors and promote ticket sales.
- Develop promotional materials to publicize the events.
Development administration (10%)
- Provide leadership and support for board development activities.
- Document all gift donations utilizing Salesforce and acknowledgement activities.
- Maintain a donor database, track relationships and actions, build donor profiles and generate reports.
Position requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years experience in non-profit fundraising and grant writing. Experience may substitute for education.
- Excellent relationship-building skills and the ability to engage with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to raise funds and work with foundations and donors. Experience in event planning is helpful.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Strong ability to handle multiple projects and priorities.
- Exceptional attention to detail and experience working in teams.
- Must have a can-do attitude and likes to take the initiative, follow through and manage time efficiently.
- Experience with SalesForce is helpful.
Salary and benefits: Salary $55,000 to $62,000 DOE. Excellent benefits include generous medical, dental and vision insurance, four weeks paid vacation, ten paid holidays and employer-matching retirement plan. NWEC is an equal opportunity employer.
