Summary of Duties

Thurston County Public Works is seeking a student intern to support visual communications initiatives related to Road Operations, Solid Waste and Water Resources. This position is estimated to be effective from June 1, 2019 through September 30, 2019.

The Digital Multimedia Assistant will download images and video to the Public Works Department network using digital photography equipment and media cards. Collect, resize, classify and archive digital images for the Public Works Department, and work with department personnel to download and edit drone photos and video. The intern will also be responsible for taking photos and video of construction projects along with performing video interviews of public works personnel and assisting in story boarding and editing short videos for Public Works Department.

Principal Duties:

  • Take photos of current projects using digital photography equipment
  • Perform on camera interviews
  • Produce videos for the department including taking video, audio and editing content
  • Create a digital video and image archive for use in communication initiatives
  • Assist in creation of content and all other needed assets for special communication initiatives

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • Must possess a current and valid Washington State driver’s license or have requested and obtained an appropriate accommodation.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with co-workers and the public; ability to take oral and written instructions, adaptable to changing work conditions/tasks and, at times, work independently.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher)
  • Experience with Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Experience with video and audio editing software (After Effects, Premier Pro, etc.)
  • Intermediate skill level for graphic design, photography, and/or video editing

Desired SkillsThe ideal candidate with posses the following qualifications and skills:

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Degree or currently majoring in: Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Digital Media, Marketing, Advertising, or similar background.
