Stream & Wetland Restoration Technician I
Adopt-A-Stream Foundation (AASF) Job Opening May 1, 2019
The AASF was established in 1985 as a non-profit corporation with the mission to “teach people to become stewards of their watersheds.” The AASF has developed award winning educational materials, and its Streamkeeper Field Training workshops have been conducted throughout the NW. Now, the AASF is developing the Northwest Stream Center: a regional environmental learning facility with stream & wetland ecology and fish & wildlife habitat restoration themes.
In addition to the education activities outlined above, the AASF is restoring several large riparian zones adjacent to streams in Snohomish and King County. This summer, we will be constructing a variety of in-stream fish and wildlife habitat enhancement and restoration projects. Now, we are recruiting one person to fill the position described below:
Duties: Functions as a member of a team constructing stream and wetland restoration projects and surveying physical and biological characteristics of streams. Enters field information into a computer database. Constructs a variety of stream and wetland restoration projects ranging from the installation of log grade control structures and fish ladders to stream bank restoration. Supervises crews of volunteers and/or partner laborers.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: Must have good written and verbal communication skills and be literate in basic computer word-processing, spreadsheet and database software; skill in both IBM and MAC computer systems preferred. Must be in excellent physical condition, capable of lifting 45 pounds, and capable of working in rough outdoor conditions in all types of weather. A thorough knowledge of stream ecology and salmon habitat is required. Must be proficient in the use of a wide range of hand tools and equipment that would be typically used in stream restoration work. Knowledge of how to use stream-monitoring equipment is preferred. Must have a valid Washington State driver’s license. Heavy Equipment experience preferred.
Minimum Education/Experience: High School diploma and an AA Degree or equivalent in the natural resources sciences required. Three years of exceptional work experience related to the job duties may substitute for the AA Degree.
Promotion Opportunity: Within one year, successful candidates may have an opportunity to be promoted to and Tech II position or an Ecologist I position depending on performance and qualifications (a four year degree in natural resource science field is required for promotion to the Ecologist I position).
Salary: $16 to $18 per hour DOQ
Work Schedule: Every other Friday Off
Benefits: Following a successful probation period of up to 90 days, 12% of salary will be provided to the employee for health and/or retirement along with paid vacation and sick leave.
Working Conditions:
Candidates must be able to work outdoors in rough terrain/inclement weather carrying stream-monitoring equipment and be capable of lifting materials/equipment typically used in stream restoration projects. Office is located in the Visitors Building of the Northwest Stream Center. Occasional travel, and evening/weekend work is required.
