Position Description

Are you a talented, enthusiastic GIS Analyst with 1-2 years’ experience applying innovative, cutting-edge GIS solutions to address complex spatial problems?  Join the Herrera team and make a difference!  The GIS Analyst reports to the GIS Manager and provides mapping and spatial analysis support on a diverse range of interesting engineering and environmental challenges for cities, counties, agencies, and private clients throughout the Pacific and Inland Northwest and internationally. The ideal candidate will be a strong analytical thinker with an eye for effective graphics, scripting and web development skills, and an excellent attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • BA or BS in Geography, Cartography, Planning, Natural Resources, Geology, Engineering, or other GIS-related field with a GIS concentration
  • 1-2 years of direct professional experience
  • Ability to apply a high level of creativity and innovation to GIS analyses in support of environmental projects in our water resources, ecological restoration, and sustainability practice areas
  • Strong knowledge of map production and spatial analysis using ArcGIS 10x desktop software and GIS web technology
  • Strong knowledge of ArcGIS extensions, including Spatial Analyst and 3D Analyst
  • Familiarity with compiling local and regional environmental data from a variety of sources, including field data and online data
  • Proficiency with Model Builder and scripting languages such as Python (ArcPy) or R to automate repetitive desktop GIS tasks is a plus
  • Web application development experience (HTML/CSS/JavaScript, etc.) is a plus
  • Experience with graphic design software like Adobe Illustrator is a plus
  • Experience in designing and building GIS databases is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively explain GIS technology needs and opportunities to clients and coworkers
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment with rapidly changing objectives, budget constraints, and priorities
  • Ability to take direction easily and follow direction accurately
  • Ability to work both quickly and accurately
  • Ability to work alone for extended periods of time while remaining motivated, efficient, and innovative
  • Passion and understanding of how to effectively apply technology as a “means to an end” for solving problems and accomplishing goals
