The Information Technology Services Office (ITSO) is currently looking to fill a Active Directory Administrator (IT Specialist 5) position. This position will be located in our Headquarters Building in Lacey, WA.
The purpose of the Active Directory Administrator position is to create, implement, monitor, and control data access processes, architectures, and strategies that protect all of Ecology’s data and information assets. The position uses a blend of systems administration, security technology, and data management skills to keep Ecology’s computing, data storage, and information assets safe and operational through the use of directory based identity services (Active Directory services).
We are looking for applicants to provide leadership and direction, consult and advise, problem solve, and manage Ecology’s agency-wide technology platforms. The ideal candidates will possess excellent people skills, with the ability to professionally and effectively communicate with a diverse audience ranging from IT Professionals to Agency Executive Leadership. Being comfortable working in a fast paced environment, have the ability to remain calm while quickly assessing an urgent situation, and the ability to make critical decisions.

Duties
Program Mission: The Information Technology Services Office (ITSO) is the central provider of strategic and tactical support for the use of Information Technology (IT) within Ecology. The mission of ITSO is to create and support useful technology services that adapt for the future and support Ecology’s mission.
Section Mission: The Infrastructure and Operations (INO) section is focused on the planning, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of Ecology’s agency-wide technology platforms that all applications and services operate on. This section provides services to all staff in the areas of desktop technical support, Help Desk, wired and wireless networking, Regional Information Technology Services (RITS) for field site technology support, servers, storage, managed print services, and unified communications support and services. This position controls and manages the agency endpoint protection, operating system (OS) deployment, OS updates.
The Active Directory Administrator position is responsible for:
- Includes FSMO roles, trusts, Kerberos KDCs, replication topology, etc.
- Creation of all top-level OU hierarchies with LBL standard sub-OUs, groups, and appropriate security permissions. This includes adding the OU Admins to the Add Computers group, Group Policy Creator Owners group, and OU Admins mail list. It also includes setting appropriate permissions on the created objects and linking of default GPOs.
- Use the domain admin account only for actions that require the privilege level of this account.
- Monitoring changes to domain root and domain controllers OU to ensure unauthorized changes do not occur.
- Day-to-day management of the domain controllers.
- Monitoring connectivity, synchronization, replication, net logon, time services, FSMO roles, schema, NTDS database partitions, DNS settings, SRV records, and trust relationships.
- Review DC event and security logs and take corrective actions.
- Monitor and resolve security situations at all levels of the domain to ensure a stable and secure domain.
- Domain Controller Management, Backups and restores on domain controllers
- Full disaster recovery plan and practice recovery of DCs and core Directory objects
- Policy monitoring and compliance.
- Secure remote administration of the DCs and member servers managed by the Infrastructure Group.
- Manage group policy at root of domain and for Domain Controllers OU.
- Manage the root Users and the root Computers OUs.
- Install and manage security reporting tools used to monitor changes to the Active Directory.
- Coordinate and configure alarm distribution to OU Admins for OU-related events.
- Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and Local Area Networking.
- Plan and manage all migrations and upgrades related to the AD or the DCs.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
An Associate’s degree or higher in Computer Science; Information Technology or related field OR completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related program.
AND
Two (2) years recent senior level professional experience (full-time equivalent) in one or more of the following IT disciplines: consulting, systems development, systems analysis, database management, technical support troubleshooting, project management or server management.
OR
Four (4) years of recent senior to expert level professional experience (full-time equivalent) in one or more of the following IT disciplines: consulting, systems development, systems analysis, database management, technical support troubleshooting, project management or server management.
Desired Qualifications:
- MCP certification in Active Directory.
- Four years of enterprise information technology experience working with Active Directory.
