Job Description
The Field Director acts as field lead for cultural resource investigations, including surveys, testing, data recovery excavations, and reporting.

• Attends kick-off meeting with clients and agencies, and will maintain record of meetings
• Organizes fieldwork mobilization/demobilization
• Ensures the accurate identification of historical period and prehistoric sites, features, and artifacts and that site documentation complies with North Wind, agency, and SHPO documentation guidelines and requirements.
• Responsible for all archaeological and built environment documentation in the field and ensures that all data collected is accurate, organized and of high quality.
• Supervises photographic documentation of cultural resources and ensures that photo documentation is complete on a daily basis.
• Operates or supervises operation of GPS units, collection of all GPS field data, and uploading GPS data on a daily basis.
• Previous experience documenting cultural resources using tablets a plus.
• Works well with project members in a professional manner and maintains a high level of communication regarding status of work product.
• Mentors junior personnel.
• Generates technical reports and other deliverables as required for each project.
• In concert with the Project Manager, ensures that projects are completed on schedule and within allocated funding.
• Coordinates with and updates project fieldwork and reporting status to Project Manager on a regular basis

Qualifications
Master’s degree in Archaeology or related field and 2 years relevant experience, or Ph.D. An ideal candidate will be permitted or permittable for work on state, BLM and forest lands in in the state of Washington. Fieldwork will require overnight travel.

Position will require extensive physical exertion, such as walking up to 10 hours a day over steep, uneven, heavily wooded, hostile terrain in outdoor heat /cold stress conditions and weather elements such as wind, snow or rain.   Ability to dig and excavate at least 1 cu meter per day; potential contact with poisonous plants, insects and animals.  Individual must be able to conduct these tasks while wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment.  This work may be performed in remote locations and require camping.
