We are looking for a talented individual to work with us in the Investment and Policy Solutions Divisions (IPSD), Water and Sanitation to support and build up Water and Sanitation portfolio. 

The Division expects to expand its technical capacity by hiring a Sanitation Intern for the Water and Sanitation Sector within the Division, to support analysis and understanding of the interlinkages of sanitation with climate change, including its role in mitigation and adaptation. The intern is further expected to share findings in internal GGGI platforms and support the knowledge sharing work as part of the city-wide inclusive sanitation work, funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, in Nepal and Senegal.

The assignment will include the followings but not limited to:

  • (Review and analysis of studies that demonstrate the interlinkages of sanitation with climate change.
  • Analysis of sanitation activities in GGGI’s partner countries, and their impacts on GHG emissions.
  • Review of promising innovations in sanitation technologies, approaches and thinking which demonstrate GHG mitigation and improved adaptation to climate change.
  • Best practices that demonstrate how sanitation infrastructure can be made climate resilient.
  • Working with Thought Leadership in the preparation of appropriate material (briefs, insights, reviews) that summarize the relationship and role of sanitation in the climate space.
  • Supporting the knowledge sharing and mainstreaming work as part of the BMFG funded work on city-wide, inclusive sanitation in Nepal and Senegal.
  • Prepare appropriate communications material for conferences and events (COP, urban forum etc.) on sanitation.
  • Write a report on the findings that will be used as an insight brief or if sufficiently promising as a publication

 Can you be a GGGI intern?

The Global Green Growth Institute internship program (also called “Grow Green” Program) provides a unique learning opportunity for students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds.   • Are you enrolled in a Master’s or in a Ph.D. program, or in the final year of a Bachelor’s program?
  • Have you completed Bachelor’s, Masters or PHD Degree in last 12 months?
  • Are you between a first degree and graduate school (gap year)?
  • Interest in climate change issues and understanding of mitigation and adaptation.
  • Ability to interact easily with people from other cultures and backgrounds
  • Proven affinity with GGGIs mission statement and objectives on green growth and social inclusion.
  • Do you have excellent command of English?
  • Second language such as French is preferred.

 Things to keep in mind for interns

  • Duration: The internship program lasts for at least three months and can be as long as six months. Once selected, interns must begin your internship either prior to or within 12 months of graduation.
  • Cost: GGGI interns are paid USD$500 per month. All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by either the interns or their sponsoring institutions.
  • Visa: GGGI will provide a supporting letter for visa. Interns will be responsible for obtaining and financing the necessary visas.
  • Travel: Intern will arrange and finance their travel to the internship location.
  • Medical insurance: Interns must present proof of valid medical insurance to GGGI.
  • Confidentiality: Interns must be discreet and keep confidential any and all unpublished information obtained during the course of the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information.
  • Academic Credit: Interns may get academic credit from their institution of higher education for the internship. Interns need to check with their university to confirm their academic credit policy for internships.
  • Working Hours: interns are expected to work during normal working hours. Leave should be pre-approved by the Intern Manager, and the latter should inform the Office of HR accordingly.
  • Learning Outcomes: before completion of the internship, Intern Managers are expected to review the learning outcomes with the intern.
  • Certificate: provided upon successful completion of the internship, upon request.
