The School of Global Environmental Sustainability (SoGES) at Colorado State University, founded in 2008, is dedicated to scientific research, education, and engagement on issues of global environmental sustainability. The School’s mission is to:
• Conduct innovative research that transcends boundaries and leads to new and deeper understanding of sustainability issues.
• Provide a challenging, integrative, and provocative education that gives future leaders knowledge and tools that enable them to contribute to environmental sustainability.
• Engage with the public and decision makers in translating discoveries into useful information and practical solutions to pressing environmental problems.

Position Summary

This position will lead planning, development, and implementation of SoGES communications activities. Responsibilities will include regular production of a newsletter, program announcements, and other documents; development and execution of a consistent written and visual brand identity; creation and production of an annual report; creating and curating website content; writing and editing descriptions of SoGES activities and research projects sponsored by SoGES; creation of posters and other promotional materials; development and maintenance of a unique and compelling social media presence for SoGES; and describing SoGES programs and activities to students, faculty, stakeholders, and the general public.

Required Qualifications

•Bachelor’s degree in relevant major such as communications, marketing, journalism, English, or public relations
•2 years’ experience with writing, both technical and creative, content for the web, press releases, social media, news stories, and marketing materials
•Proven ability to create, implement, deliver, and evaluate an integrated marketing communications and branding strategy that aligns with an organization’s overall strategy and direction
•Experience with social media, website and other digital communications tools
•Ability to edit, rewrite, consolidate, proof, and communicate scientific information to lay audiences
•Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
•Experience with graphic design, software, layout, and printing processes
•Excellent verbal and written communications skills
•Experience leading the coordination and production of message strategy, creative execution, copywriting, photography, artwork and media planning (including publications, advertisements, video presentations, websites, and other print and digital media)
•Experience effectively working across an organization to develop and present well-researched, authentic, consistent messages targeted toward multiple stakeholder group
•Excellent writing and editing skills

Preferred Qualifications

•Master’s Degree in relevant area such as communications, marketing, English, journalism, or public relations
•Experience working with established and evolving brands and graphic standards
•Experience working within a higher education environment
•Experience with best practices for digital content and familiarity with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
•Attention to detail and accuracy
•Demonstrated experience meeting deadlines across all media (print, digital, collateral, etc.)
