Expedia Group Geography is looking for a Geography Contractor to join our team. As the Geography Contractor you are responsible for curating and maintaining geographic data such as property locations, points of interest, and regional administrative data for Expedia Group brands. This includes obtaining latitude and longitude data, conducting research to ascertain the validity of information, data entry, and understanding geographic hierarchy taxonomies. You have worldwide geographic knowledge and familiarity with mapping products such as Google Maps, Open Street Maps, and other web-based mapping tools. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple projects while addressing requests in a timely fashion are required. The ideal candidate is able to explain geographic complexities and set expectations for data visibility on Expedia Group Brands to uninformed users, which may involve language and cultural differences.

 

Note: This is NOT a GIS Position

 

Responsibilities:

  • Your primary responsibilities include researching and analyzing multiple data sources to ascertain accurate geographic data.
  • You will assist in continuous maintenance and provide feedback for improvement of databases and data systems used by the Geography Team.
  • You will work independently to complete daily tasks and communicate status to internal and external clients, including property partners, point-of-sale, and market management representatives.
  • Adhere to and apply Geography Team processes in order to meet targets and due dates.

 

Skills:

  • Highly accurate and proficient data entry
  • Detail oriented
  • Proficiency with MS Excel and MS Word
  • Proficiency with online mapping tools such as Google Maps and Open Street Maps
  • Ability to learn and apply new methods quickly

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Geography or related field
  • 2+ years demonstrated administrative support
  • Knowledge of at least one foreign language (proficiency not required)
  • Travel Industry or related experience
