The Major Taylor Project (MTP) empowers youth from underrepresented communities through bicycling. In MTP after-school clubs, students establish healthy habits, build relationships, gain confidence and discover their ability to affect positive change. Who we serve: The Major Taylor Project reaches more than 500 youth annually in middle and high schools in central and south King County and in Pierce County. In these areas, residents speak over 70 languages and represent over 80 nationalities. Our club locations are intentionally established to reach youth in low-income and diverse neighborhoods. The Major Taylor Project AmeriCorps will support 10 community sites and schools throughout South Seattle and Tacoma. The Major Taylor Project AmeriCorps will have an established track record of building community relationships, balancing multiple projects and meeting desired outcomes.
Member Duties : Project Support – Support and coordinate Ride Leaders and Volunteers – Support the facilitation of MTP Bike Club meetings and events throughout the year – Support Project Manager and Project Field Coordinator in the planning, logistics, and execution of the Major Taylor Project as related to the position. Curriculum – Support the delivery of curriculum in collaboration with ride leaders – Attend MTP Bike Club meetings regularly to achieve the goals of the program while ensuring student safety and enjoyment – Ensure presence of necessary materials (handouts, tools, snacks, water bottles, gloves, helmets, bikes, clothes) for delivering Earn a Bike and After School Rides curriculum. Event Planning – Plan and execute events, rides, and programming through coordinating with Ride Leaders, Site Leaders, Students, and Community Supporters – Encourage student interest and participation in MTP clubs and programs -Coordinate Volunteers to assist with events and programs
