Ecology is recruiting for a Greenhouse Gas Reduction Specialist. This position is part of the Climate Policy section of our Air Quality Program. This position helps to identify, prevent, and minimize air pollution, specializing in the implementation of the HFC (hydrofluorocarbons) program.
We are looking for creative, organized, self-starters with excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical information to non-technical audiences.
This is a unique opportunity to be one of the first people in one of the first states to address this topic. This position can be a pioneer in implementing a new law that reduces greenhouse gas emissions to address climate change.
Some of the key work activities for this position include:
- Communicating and collaborating with key stakeholders, including federal and state agencies, local governments, attorney general’s office, and private businesses, to ensure clear understanding of the HFC program.
- Working closely with the Communications Manager to promote awareness and encourage the use of substitute chemicals in the manufacture and supply chain of products.
- Specializing in the implementation of the HFC program and explaining the program to internal and external audiences a way that facilitates compliance.
- Providing technical assistance and customer service for the regulated community.
- Tracking changes to available and approved substitutes across multiple jurisdictions and assisting stakeholders in responding to changes.
- Proposing rule updates to program management and assessing current and potential complementary state policies.
- Researching and analyzing technological developments, state and federal legislation, and regulations that may impact the program, and summarizing for program management.
- Identifying opportunities to reduce HFC use in Washington, including promoting refrigerants with low global warming potential in utility equipment and consumer appliances.
