Compensation: $36,000 – $55,000

Sunrise Movement is dedicated to stopping climate change and creating millions of good jobs in the process, by building an army of young people to make climate change an urgent priority across America, end the corrupting influence of fossil fuel executives on our politics, and elect leaders who stand up for the health and wellbeing of all people. In November 2018, following our 6-month

75-person electoral organizing fellowship, Sunrise Semester, we launched the campaign for a Green New Deal alongside Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. In 2019, Sunrise will continue fighting for a Green New Deal while preparing to run a scaled-up Sunrise Semester program in 2020. Sunrise Movement Education Fund (501c3) and Sunrise (501c4) are organizations dedicated to supporting the mobilization and leadership of Sunrise Movement.

Position

Sunrise Movement seeks a talented, passionate individual to help manage our multi-state youth focused electoral campaign in 2020. In 2020 Sunrise Movement will bring on 250 youth fellows, 50 regional organizers and 10 State Directors to register and turnout the youth vote for exciting federal candidates championing the Green New Deal, build the movement for a Green New Deal and lead mass moral protest. The Deputy Field Director will help design one of the largest youth interventions in the 2020 election, and manage senior field staff in 2-5 states. The ideal candidate will have a deep commitment to Sunrise’s principles and theory of change, belief in civil disobedience as a critical strategy for achieving social change, and experience managing multiple levels of staff on a fast paced electoral campaign.

Salary

Sunrise believes that all Americans are entitled to a $15 living wage; our standard salary offer is based on a $15 base wage, adjusted for cost of living in your home city. We have a formula which

incorporates additional salary variables for years of experience, dependents, and other factors, which will be shared with all applicants upon the receipt of application.

Core Responsibilities

Field Program Design

Work with the Field Director to design Sunrise’s 2020 electoral program, including placement of movement houses, timing of trainings and onboarding, goal setting etc.

Help manage Sunrise’s endorsement process for federal candidates

Support State Directors in building state and local field plans and identifying key races for Sunrise to intervene in

Work with Field Director to evaluate program success at key moments

Management

Hire, train and manage State Directors who will oversee Sunrise Movement’s Sunrise Semester organizing fellowship in 2-5 states/regions in 2020

Oversee the hiring and management of regional organizers and fellows in states/regions Deputy Field Director manages

Frontline support to Team Support and Culture Director and Program Team for HR and logistical issues in states/regions Deputy Field Director manages

Training

Onboard and train State Directors, and provide ongoing management training

Help design and lead week long training “bootcamps” for new fellows and regional organizers

Campaign Support

Help mobilize Sunrise Semester staff for key moments of centralized and distributed moral protest

Work with campaign strategy team to identify key moments for escalated protest

Work with Hub Support team to help strengthen hubs and volunteer leadership in states/regions overseen by the Deputy Field Director

Qualifications

A genuine passion for stopping the climate crisis and creating millions of good jobs.

Excellent staff management skills and proven experience managing multiple levels of leadership

Experience with Congressional, Statewide or multi-state field programs

Experience with civil disobedience and a commitment to civil disobedience and moral protest as key strategies for making change

Proficiency with NGP VAN or similar database/volunteer management tools

Excellent organizational and planning skills. Ability to project manage multiple events and tracks of work simultaneously

Strong written and verbal communication skills, demonstrating attention to detail

Comfort working independently, embracing experimentation, taking initiative and leading on identifying opportunities
