Built Green is the residential green building certification program created and administered by the MBA. Its mission is to serve as the driving force for environmentally sound design, construction, and development practices in Washington’s cities and communities. It accomplishes this mission through certification of green homes, promotion of green building education, and provision of extended membership benefits to members of the Built Green Program. The team seeks to actively develop and maintain relationships across many facets of the industry and the community, such as industry influencers, sponsors, community partners, members and public sector partners. The Built Green Program Manager leads the efforts of the MBA to meet Built Green’s goals and objectives.

The Role: Built Green Program Manager

Lead MBA’s Built Green program in accordance with Built Green’s mission, vision and values. Lead Built Green to be consistent with MBA’s goals and objectives and serve as a model for residential new construction and remodeling.

Essential Functions:

Strategy

  • Develop and implement business plans including marketing and brand awareness with guidance from MBA’s Board, executives, and directors.
  • With oversight by MBA’s executives and directors, develop, implement, and manage to annual program and event budgets.
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of green building technological and market trends and steer the program in a way that harnesses those movements.
  • Continuously identify market needs, events, and education as it relates to green building to increase program participation.
  • Analyze the market and, in coordination with MBA’s Education Coordinator, create an education plan to enhance member value and increase industry knowledge and influence.
  • Convene Built Green Executive Committee and utilize committee feedback to inform program goals.
  • Manage external partnerships with local governments, utilities, and other green building programs.
  • Analyze potential sponsorship opportunities and make sponsorship recommendations to MBAKS directors and business development managers.
  • Set ambitious goals and execute plans to increase Built Green certification and membership.
  • Identify and analyze key performance indicators for strategic goals of the Built Green program.
  • Strategically grow utilization of program both locally and around the state through active engagement with builders and developers.

Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor the Built Green team.
  • Lead Built Green Executive Committee and convene and lead subcommittees as needed.
  • Oversee and manage program updates such as updates to energy modeling guidelines and certification checklists.
  • Curate Built Green Conference content, including keynote and session topics.
    • To be consistent with ideals and goals of MBA, and assess and communicate content boundaries to speakers and panelists.
  • Oversee third-party verifiers, recruit new verifiers, and vet applicants.
  • With involvement by appropriate MBA executives and directors, manage the Built Green brand and ensure standards, voice, and policy stances are clearly conveyed and well-represented.
  • Be an ambassador of MBA’s Built Green Program through public speaking engagements, publications and media relations.
    • Conduct research, create presentations and curriculum for workshops/seminars, author articles and white papers for MBA, Built Green and outside industry publications.

Program Management

  • Organize, prioritize and execute program to meet annual business plan objectives.
  • Review and approve Buitl Green project certifications.
    • Communicate with member project team to support and address issues as they arise.
  • Conduct publicity efforts to promote Built Green program and projects.
  • In conjunction with Director of Programs and Products, coordinate green building-related media requests.
  • Oversee content production (including newsletter, blog, MBA magazine articles, and social media) to ensure that Built Green’s standards and stances are clear
  • Produce written content on behalf of Built Green for internal and external publications, research, and white papers.
  • Collaborate with partners on co-marketing opportunities.
  • In conjunction with MBA directors and marketing department, coordinate strategy for Built Green marketing and social media campaigns.
  • Seek ways to interact and provide value to current and new members of Built Green program.

Policy Work

  • In concert with MBA executives and directors, outline and convey Built Green’s stances on policies internally and externally.
  • Identify key markets for targeted policy campaigns in coordination with partners.
  • Maintain healthy and productive relationships with public and private partners in order to maximize policy knowledge and coordination.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Programs and Products, serve as the voice of Built Green for policy development related to green building.

Community Relationships/Partnerships

  • Represent the Built Green program publicly, including through active participation in green building and policy groups (such as Shift Zero and the King County Green Building Task Force), conferences and other speaking engagements, and at public events.
  • Evaluate potential demonstration project opportunities and oversee such projects.
  • Actively seek and nurture relationships for new members, sponsor partners and community.
    • Build relationships with and coordinate on outreach efforts with related programs and organizations.
    • Seek and act on feedback from members and industry professionals on the program.
  • Review and manage third party agency relationships.

Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in environmental studies, urban planning or similar field (Masters or Advanced Degree preferred).
  • 3 years’ experience in program management, preferably in non-profit or association.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills. Ability to problem solve, take initiative, set priorities, handle multiple projects, and exercise good judgment in a fast pace, dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
  • Fluency with Microsoft Word products, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong writing, communication and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge and passion for green building.
