Summary

The City of Kirkland is seeking an Environmental Analyst who will perform professional and technical environmental work related to natural resource enhancement and improvement projects throughout the City, as well as provide support in the development and implementation of policies and standards for the protection and management of the City’s natural resources.


Essential Functions

  • Monitors tree protection on construction projects
  • Monitors City mitigation projects within sensitive areas
  • Conducts biological and physical assessments and analysis of ecosystem health to prioritize programs
  • Develops and designs effective and efficient monitoring and reporting strategies for adaptive management approaches to managing stream resources
  • Writes comprehensive reports for local stream and habitat systems.
  • Prepare technical documents and maps for use by technical staff, elected officials, management and the public.
  • Manages and assists projects through developing on overall framework that includes defining project scope, activity planning, sequencing, and time estimating; develops schedules, cost estimations, budget, and project documentation.
  • Gives public presentations to City elected officials and staff, citizens, and regional forums.
  • Present conclusions orally to technical staff, management and the public; interact with clients (public or internal customers) on technical issues and questions.
  • Represents the City at outside agency meetings related to ecological issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, environmental science or other related programs
  • 5 or more years of professional related experience dealing with environmental protection and preservation in the areas of water quality and habitat assessment and restoration, including delineating wetlands using the state or federal manuals, preparing wetland reports, conducting function assessments, and developing and implementing mitigation plans
  • Certification as a Professional Wetland Scientist is required
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License

Hours of Work

8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday

Working Conditions & Physical Activities

  • Work will be performed in an office setting and in the field.  In the office, long periods of time may be spent sitting.
  • Occasionally, work may be at a computer terminal for several hours at a time.
  • Work in field involves walking, talking, hearing, using hand tools to handle, feel or operate options, tools or controls, and reaching with hands and arms
  • The employee may be required to push, pull, lift and/or carry up to 40 pounds

This position is represented by the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees Union (AFSCME).  Membership options available upon employment with the City.
