Position Summary

The Development and Events Associate is an integral part of the development team. This position plays a pivotal role in the planning and execution of our two signature fundraising events and other organizational outreach events; ensures development systems support the overall functioning of the team and that donor information is properly tracked and gifts are acknowledged in a timely manner; and supports the Major Gifts team and other fund development activities. This is a full-time position based in Seattle, WA and works under the direction of the Business Relations and Events Manager.

This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented person with strong organizational skills and some background in event planning who would like to gain experience and grow professionally in the fundraising and non-profit arena. About Us

Washington Environmental Council (WEC) drives positive change to solve our state’s most pressing environmental challenges. For over 50 years, we have been a respected leader for environmental protection in the state, securing laws and policies that safeguard the health of our families and our environment. Our current program areas are: Acting for Climate and Preventing Fossil Fuel Expansion, Protecting and Restoring Puget Sound, and Sustaining our Evergreen Forests. We collaborate with partners and work with impacted communities to galvanize support and effectively advocate for change with key decision makers and leaders.

Washington Conservation Voters (WCV) is the statewide political voice for the environment. We work to elect environmentally responsible candidates to state and local offices. Working with allies in the community, we advocate strong environmental policies and hold our elected officials accountable during the legislative session. Through our political work, we are strengthening laws that safeguard the health of our communities, the beauty of our state, and our economic future.

By effectively combining the policy expertise of WEC with the political expertise of WCV, we have reshaped how we make environmental progress in Washington state. While the organizations are independent, we work very closely together on appropriate projects. Combined, we have a staff of 35-plus and work in a LEED-certified building in downtown Seattle with a view of Elliott Bay. Compensation and Benefits:

This is a full time, exempt position with a starting salary range of $40,000 – $45,000 depending on experience. We also offer a generous benefits package including: employer-paid medical, dental and vision insurance; a 401k plan and organizational match of up to 3% of your annual salary; a flexible spending account; paid vacation and sick leave and ten paid holidays per year; an unlimited ORCA transit pass, and if you work for seven consecutive years you are eligible for a two-month paid sabbatical.

Responsibilities

Support the planning and execution of WEC and WCV fundraising and outreach events.

  • Play a key role in managing the audience development strategy and processes to build and meet event attendance goals.
  • Manage event registration systems and processes.
  • Contribute to the program development and design of events.
  • Lead and manage the “mystery bag” and silent auction procurement and processes.
  • Manage the development team intern and event volunteers.

Lead gift entry and thank you processes:

  • Enter, code, and reconcile gift data.
  • Produce gift-related reports from our Salesforce database.
  • Implement and manage the thank you process. Create reports to support thank you process.
  • Assist with data hygiene and troubleshoot database issues.

Support Major Donor and Other Development Activities:

  • Support events designed for our major donors.
  • Support and potentially lead other smaller fundraising and/or outreach events.
  • Provide training and support to development volunteers and interns as needed as they work on data entry, research, and other data-related tasks for the development team.

Support Other Organizational Goals and Activities:

  • Engage in WEC & WCV’s racial equity and environmental justice work, including active participation in one of our Racial Equity Teams
  • Incorporate equity and justice into your daily work when opportunities arise
  • Contribute to organizational excellence by seeking and implementing innovative new tools, processes, and solutions to move our work forward.

Qualifications

Required Skills, Experience, and Abilities:

  • At least two years of cumulative job or internship experience.
  • Experience with Salesforce or other donor software.
  • Experience in planning successful fundraising events or managing other projects that involve multiple elements and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with MS Office products.
  • Strong phone skills and an outgoing personality; including the ability to be persistent and convincing over the phone and in person.
  • Ability to efficiently organize and prioritize work and meet deadlines, often in compressed timelines, and remain flexible under pressure.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to drive work forward independently while working in a fast-paced team setting.
  • Ability and willingness to work necessary hours leading up to, during, and immediately following events.
  • Must be able to work some weekends and nights; ability to travel occasionally to other locations within Washington.
  • Proven grounding and commitment to principles of racial diversity, equity, inclusion and justice.
