Full-Time/Non-permanent
Fish Hatchery Specialist 2

There is one (1) 9-month non-permanent Fish Hatchery Specialist 2 position in the Fish Program, Hatchery Division.The duty station is the Soos Creek Hatchery located at 13030 SE Auburn Black Diamond, Auburn, WA. 98092. This position will work between Icy Creek, Palmer Ponds and Soos Creek Hatchery.  DutiesAdult Fish Handling, Fish Feeding, Pond Cleaning
Tasks include:
Collecting, sorting, spawning, sampling of adult salmon.  These duties require heavy lifting, repetitive lifting of adult transport boots and working with Soos Creek.  In rearing ponds and under foul weather conditions.

Egg sampling and picking
Tasks include:
Weighing and counting salmon eggs and removing egg deformities and mortalities.  These duties require working long periods of standing, careful attention to detail and protocols in often cold temperatures.

Grounds and equipment
Tasks include:
Cleaning adult handling areas, vehicle hatchery buildings/bathrooms.  Weed eating, raking, weeding.  Small equipment repairs or maintenance.

Weir Maintenance
Tasks include:
Maintenance the weir and assists staff in removing debris/leaves.  This task requires in-stream work on unstable terrain and repetitive raking.

All other duties required
Tasks include:

Working Conditions
Workweek is M-W, 10 days on 4 days off.  8:00 – 5:00, Sunday – Saturday.  Work hours can vary greatly at different time of the year depending on the work schedule and weather conditions.  This position requires standby, the employee is responsible for overseeing the facility for the remaining 16 hours of the day.  Position often requires commuting from the hatchery to the lower river weir.  Public interaction is very common, and this position requires the ability to clearly communicates to the public.  This incumbent must be able to work well with large groups and receive instruction from multiple permanent staff.  This position requires a valid driver’s license.    This position is off-station and standby is assigned.

Note:
All applicants considering applying for this position should understand and consider that standby is a requirement for all positions in the Fish Hatchery Specialist series.  Management may determine it is necessary to assign it in order to accomplish the goals and objectives of the agency and as necessary to protect the resources of the agency and if assigned, it will be a requirement of the position.

Union
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the State of Washington, Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the Washington Association of Fish Hatchery Professionals (WAFHP), which contains a “union security” provision.

QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED.   Preferred work experience in a hatchery setting.

Preferred experience
Soos Creek Hatchery experience, Salmon Culture, Weir and Hatchery experience.
