Responsible for leading the development, implementation, ongoing evaluation and refinement of the Program including research, education and stewardship projects primarily in Snohomish County. This position provides Puget Sound ecosystem and water resources expertise, implements multiple events including an annual introductory 80-hour volunteer training program, a 25-hour ‘short course’ for Beach Naturalists and advanced training opportunities for veteran volunteers; coordinates and mentors volunteers on their respective projects; conceptualizes and initiates new volunteer opportunities; facilitates communication within and outside the program, fosters and supports volunteer leadership and generates extramural funds in furtherance of the program. The position also builds liaisons, networks and collaborative working relationships as necessary to carry out the program with county, state and federal agencies and with community-based groups and organizations.
Position Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant extension program discipline and two (2) years of related program experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Relevant extension program discipline includes those related to Environmental Science or related field.
Two years of progressively responsible administrative/program support work in a related field.
At least two years experience engaging with community volunteer programs. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential job functions.
While using a private vehicle for official business, the successful candidate must have current automobile liability insurance (meeting the requirements described in RCW 46.30.020 and RCW 46.29.090 ) and possess a valid driver’s license.
Must have the ability to work flexible hours that includes evenings, weekends and overnight travel is required.
Understand the role for research-based information in community environmental education.
Project-based experience in developing social marketing / behavior change programming in any field.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing and through web pages, power point presentations, etc.
Demonstrated ability to organize trainings, workshops and events and to facilitate meetings and planning sessions.
Demonstrated ability to effectively raise funds through a variety of sources.

Preferred
Direct experience working with Puget Sound ecosystem education, monitoring and/or restoration projects.
Masters degree in Environmental Science or related field.
Demonstrated ability to partner with government agencies, community groups, tribes, and diverse audiences.
Demonstrated skills in training adults.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member, work independently and be self-motivated.
Demonstrated ability to quickly grasp new techniques, deal with rapid changes in events, remain calm in stressful situations, relate to various personality styles in a calm, professional manner.
