Government & Community Relations Intern
Paid Summer Internship – Seattle, WA

The Government and Community Relations (GCR) Intern will primarily work with Vulcan’s Seattle GCR team and assist with a variety of projects and initiatives involving local/regional public policies and community outreach. This position will gain exposure to many key external stakeholders while helping the team with policy analysis, grassroots organizing and outreach.

Projects and Responsibilities

  • Provide research and analysis on public policy issues related to healthy communities, affordable housing, homelessness, civic engagement, and more.
  • Collaborate with GCR team to develop strategies and execute grassroots organizing to mobilize support for public policy initiatives.
  • Assist with community outreach efforts in neighborhoods where Vulcan has projects, including South Lake Union, Yesler Terrace, Central Area and Bellevue.
  • Assist with Vulcan’s corporate social responsibility and community program.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Recent college graduate or graduate student currently pursuing a degree from an accredited institution, preferably in fields related to public affairs or urban planning
  • Must have good understanding of government and legislative/regulatory processes.
  • Ability to research, monitor and analyze proposed legislation and regulations.
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communications skills, particularly with diverse communities and stakeholders.
  • Must be able to collaborate effectively on a multidisciplinary team.
