Summary
Join the Cloud Mountain Farm Center retail nursery team! We are looking for an energetic and knowledgeable plant expert to support our unique nursery. The ideal candidate is self‐motivated, has good communication skills, isn’t afraid to ask questions, and enjoys working with a small team. Our sales approach is through education. Cloud Mountain Farm Center is a non‐profit farm and education center, dedicated to providing hands‐on learning opportunities to new and experienced farmers as well as home gardeners.
Working Conditions
This position works routinely outdoors in all weather, as the nursery & backstock areas are outdoors in uncovered areas. There are indoor bathrooms and breakroom spaces available, cubbies for personal belongings, refrigerator/microwave etc.
Working Hours
3 ‐ 4 days a week, about 8 hours a day, including weekends. Minimum of 24 hours per week. Possibility of additional hours (up to 40 per week) seasonally, and in other areas of farm production.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
∙Knowledge of at least some groups of ornamental, native and fruit plants, ability to answer basic gardening queries
∙Experience operating a cash register and POS (point‐of‐sale)
∙Ability to lift 50 lbs. repeatedly
∙Ability to work outdoors in all weather
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
∙Landscaping, light equipment, or tractor experience preferred but not required
∙Orchard experience
Primary Responsibilities:
Sales:
∙Engaging with the public as a sales staff and as an educator
∙Collaborating with the nursery team to design attractive & functional nursery areas
∙Building plant displays
∙Ringing up customers using the point‐of‐sales (POS) system
Inventory organization & management:
∙Stocking plants
∙Maintaining inventory organization in retail and backstock areas
Nursery growing:
∙Weeding, potting, pruning, staking, irrigation and fertilization of both container production and field stock (all nursery sales areas are actual plant growing areas).
Compensation:
This is a part‐time (24hrs minimum, with possibility for up to 40hrs a week), non‐exempt position, introductory position, to be compensated $15 ‐ $17 hourly depending on qualifications and experience. Part‐time employees accrue paid time off and an individual benefit on a pro‐rated basis. First year, regular full‐time employees (working 40hrs/week) accrue 16 days per year of paid time off, and an individual benefit of $350 per month. The organization offers up to a 3% match SIMPLE IRA non‐ designated retirement plan.
