ATSI is seeking an Associate Biologist/Biologist (specializing in and passionate about, Pacific Northwest focused wetland science and permitting), to join our Bellingham based team of four (three Biologists and one Executive Assistant) and be involved in all aspects of our consulting firm, including field and office work.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Compile project related research for estimate preparation, field work, and technical document preparation.
  • Conduct field work, including qualitative and quantitative (vegetation, soils, and hydrology) data collection, wetland delineations, OHWM determinations, habitat assessments, and for mitigation as builts and monitoring.
  • Compile data collected during field work.
  • Prepare maps and figures utilizing AutoCAD LT and/or ArcGIS Pro.
  • Prepare technical documents, including emails, letters, reports, mitigation plans, and permits.
  • Collaborate and participate in meetings.
  • May be asked to contribute odds and ends tasks around the office.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science or Masters Degree or equivalent 1-3 years of experience in biology, ecology, environmental science, or similar.
  • Ability to work outside, in variable weather and understory conditions while traversing uneven terrain and carrying heavy equipment, for extended periods of time.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Transportation, car or truck, for travel to/from field sites, offices, and meeting locations. Mileage utilized reimbursed at the standard rate.

Preferred Skills

  • Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and OneDrive).
  • Mapping and Design (GPA, AutoCAD, and GIS).
  • Botany (Local plant identification and surveys).
  • Wetlands (1987 Manual, 2010 Supplement, Wetland Rating System, and Functional Assessments).
  • OHWM (Ecology guidance).
  • Species and Habitat (ESA, EFH, and surveys).
  • Mitigation (Joint regulatory guidance, Credits/Debits, and Mitigation Banks).
  • Regulatory Code and Permitting (local, state, and federal).
  • Safety (Basic compass navigation, CPR, 1st aid, and WFR).
  • Interpersonal (Flexibility with workflow, ability to juggle multiple projects, tasks, and schedules, and willingness to adapt to changing project needs while collaborating with other team members).
  • Accountability (Schedule and prioritize varying workloads independently).
  • Initiative (Job training occurs concurrently with employment, therefore, self driven and motivated, confident, and desires to improve).

Timeframe

  • Full time, long term committed.
  • With time and experience, progression to Project Manager and Senior Biologist.

Compensation

  • 1 to 3 years experience level starting hourly wage approximately $16.00/20.00 per hour.
  • Opportunities for wage increase with experience and time with eventual salary pay.

biological components (wetlands, streams, fish, wildlife, and habitat) for permitting projects at local, state, and federal levels.

Nooksack, and Lummi Tribes. We have contracted for biological critical areas consulting with the City of Anacortes Planning and Community Development, Public Works, and Parks Departments,
City of Bellingham Parks Department, and Port of Anacortes.
