Responsibilities

This position is located in the Butte Falls Field Office, Medford District, Oregon.  The incumbent provides support to the Aquatics program with major duties comprising of the following: surveying streams for type and location; laying out and mapping riparian area buffers within timber sales and other projects; collecting water quality data; assessing restoration needs, such as for decommissioning roads; working as a Contracting Officer Representative on restoration projects; and working with the project’s Inter-Disciplinary Team. Data entry, GIS, and other office-related duties are also a substantial part of the work, however this is primarily a field going position.  Work is normally conducted independently or in conjunction with mentoring Aquatics program seasonal employees, or there may be be advanced technical work with Fisheries and Hydrology specialists.

Physical Demands: Work is mainly performed in the field. The incumbent may be required to walk or ride vehicles over rough terrain, perform duties that require bending, crouching, stooping, reaching, or lifting.  Work may also include lifting moderately heavy items such as equipment and supplies.

Work Environment: Work is performed often outdoors in a field setting.  The individual may be exposed to discomfort from extreme temperatures or inclement weather and may be subject to hostile wildlife, chemical, and physical hazards.
