The SeaDoc Society is reopening our Regional Director position, which will provide development and management leadership for our team. This is a position within the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. The person hired will work closely with our Science Director, Dr. Joe Gaydos and be supervised by our Executive Director Dr. Kirsten Gilardi. They will oversee our Board of Directors to advance SeaDoc’s overall mission in the Salish Sea. Additionally, they will manage SeaDoc Society outreach, education and administrative staff and workloads.

The SeaDoc Society is a program of the Karen C. Drayer Wildlife Health Center at UC Davis. Historically, the position has been based on Orcas Island in Washington State, but for the right highly qualified candidate, the greater Seattle/Salish Sea area will be considered as well. Requirement and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • A passion for oceans, marine ecosystems and the ecosystem goods and services they provide the world.
  • A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience; solid grasp and understanding of non-profit management as well as science and its application to addressing ecosystem health challenges.
  • Development (donor relations, stewarding and fundraising) experience and a proven track record of experience working directly with donors, including solicitation of major gifts, donor stewardship and knowledge of and experience in non-profit (including university) fundraising activities and practices
  • Extensive business and administrative management experience in an institution of higher education, a research institute, or a non-governmental organization, including knowledge and experience in performing and managing financial planning and budget analyses in the areas of private sector giving, contract and grant administration, as demonstrated through education or equivalent experience;
  • Supervisory experience and team building skills demonstrated through past performance to effectively recruit, train, evaluate, and motivate staff and engage advisors, resolve problems/conflicts, conduct performance evaluations, and build an effective service-oriented, team environment.
  • Knowledge of, and skills to apply and ensure, principles of performance, multiculturalism, and diversity in the work place; coaching skills to enhance staff contributions and morale.

PREFERRED:

  • Knowledge of, or experience with, marine science, management, conservation, policy and/or education and familiarity with the Salish Sea.
  • Familiarity with the Pacific Northwest, Salish Sea, and national ocean-related philanthropic and grantor community.
