Job Title: Instruction and Classroom Support Technician 1- Learning Resource Center
Location: South Puget Sound Community College.
Closing Date: Open until filled. First review of applications will occur August 14, 2013.
Salary: $14.93 per hour, no benefits. There are two positions open at this time, one for 12 months and one for 9 months. Each position will work a maximum of 69 hours per month.
South Puget Sound Community College is recruiting for two, non-permanent part-time hourly positions in the Learning Resource Center Computing Lab. This recruitment is open to all applicants who meet the qualifications stated below. Applications received by the closing date will be used to create an applicant pool that may be used to fill similar vacancies at the college which may occur over the next six months.
The Instruction and Classroom Support Technician 1 supports the Learning Resource Center operations. This position reports to the Learning Resource Center Administrator and is responsible for assisting students in developing the necessary skills and learning strategies to be successful students. As a tutor, the Instruction and Classroom Support Technician 1 is expected to assist students with computing related tutoring needs (including specific software tutoring), assist students with use of computer lab facilities, maintain an environment conducive to learning, and participate in continuing education in tutoring best practices.
Expectations & Responsibilities:
- Tutors assist students with developing learning strategies, problem solving and study skills to complete class assignments and guide them in the use of lab hardware and software
- Assist Learning Resource Center Administrator in supervision of student workers
- Maintain lab space including rule enforcement, general clean-up, answer phones, and address general questions from students and public
Minimum Qualifications:
- Six months to two years of experience/training in assisting students with computing related tutoring needs OR equivalent education/experience
- Previous experience tutoring, or knowledge of best practices including tutoring strategies and learning theory through work, training, or academic experience
- Comprehensive understanding of:
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Computer file management
- Internet usage
- Candidates must demonstrate:
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff and students, employing interpersonal skills to establish and maintain student and general public customer satisfaction
- Sound professional judgment, ethics, and integrity
- Commitment to diversity and cultural awareness in the workplace
Preferred Qualifications:
- Earned or in-process of earning AA/AS or BA/BS from accredited community or 4-year college
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, etc), and Computer Programming software (C#, visual basic, etc)
Working Conditions:
This position will perform in an office/classroom setting and will operate standard office equipment such as a personal computer, calculator, scanner, etc. The ability to organize, prioritize and accommodate numerous interruptions is essential. This position may require moving boxes weighing up to 30 pounds.
Non-permanent employees under the provisions of WAC 357-19-435 are only authorized to work up to a maximum of 1050 hours in any twelve (12) consecutive- month period from the original date of hire. Employment with the college could end any time during the 1050 hour period as measured from the original date of hire.
All Non-permanent employees who work more than 350 hours during any consecutive 12-month period will be covered by the WFSE collective bargaining agreement and union security. At that time, the employer will furnish the employee with a dues authorization form for payroll deduction of union dues.
