The South Puget Environmental Education Clearinghouse (SPEECH) is a 24 year old nonprofit that publishes the quarterly newsletter, South Sound Green Pages, and hosts periodic community forums and events. Its 24th annual meeting will be held Monday, March 24, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at the LOTT Clean Water Alliance, 500 Adams St. SE, Olympia. The public is invited.

Nadine Romero, Thurston County Hydrogeologist, will be the keynote speaker.  LOTT Clean Water Alliance staff will also give a brief update on its multi-year Reclaimed Water Infiltration Study.

A dynamic speaker, Romero will present her latest research on local groundwater, stream flow distribution, and sea level rise issues. She spends much of her time quantifying the hydrologic cycle of Thurston County and building numerical models for prediction in contaminant chemistry, land use and climate. Romero recently presented her cutting edge information on Thurston County’s groundwater extremes and distribution in Denver at the 125th annual conference of the Geological Society of America. Romero has been practicing physical and chemical hydrogeology for the past 30 years for state, federal, tribes, and local government. Currently, she works for Thurston County and is an adjunct faculty in physical geology at St. Martin’s University.

SPEECH’s mission is to provide support and resources to those who seek to preserve, protect and restore the environment of the Pacific Northwest.  SPEECH’s website is www.oly-wa.us/greenpages.
