Assessment & Policy Coordinator (ES5)

The Environmental Assessment Program (EAP) provides a range of scientific, monitoring, laboratory, and quality assurance services.The program is currently looking for an Assessment and Policy Coordinator in Lacey, WA.

This position serves as the program lead on the statewide water quality assessment as required under the Federal Clean Water Act. The successful candidate will also serve as the program’s planning and policy coordinator and is responsible for cross-program policy coordination, strategic planning, performance measurement and legislative support.

Specific duties include:

  • Coordinates the biennial assessment of water quality data for the Integrated Assessment Report to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
  • Organizes and leads cross-program and interagency work groups on water quality assessment procedures.
  • Works closely with EAP and Water Quality program staff to develop and implement procedures for assessing the state’s compliance with water quality standards.
  • Works with other EAP staff to gather and evaluate water quality data.
  • Serves as program lead for coordinating science-policy decisions with the Water Quality program, including the development and implementation of regulations, policies, and guidance.
  • Serves as the program lead for the reporting of performance measures.
  • The position interacts with and is a member of the EAP Program Management Team.
  • The position is the EAP management sponsor of the TMDL Technical Coordination Team.
  • Assists with strategic development for the program.
  • Assists with legislative issues as needed, including representing the program in meetings and developing and delivering verbal presentations to legislators, staff, and others.

Qualifications:
Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree involving major study in environmental, physical, or one of the natural sciences.

AND

Six years of professional level experience in environmental analysis or control, or environmental planning, which includes two years equal to an Environmental Specialist 3 or above.
Job Specific Competencies

  • Knowledge of state and federal water quality laws and regulations.
  • Ability to apply and interpret Clean Water Act 303(d) listing policies and associated guidance.
