Accidental spills of dangerous materials and past business practices have contaminated land and water throughout the state. The Toxics Cleanup Program (TCP) works to remedy these situations, which range from cleaning up contamination from leaking underground storage tanks, to large, complex projects requiring engineering solutions. Our mission is to get and keep contaminants out of the environment.

The program’s Eastern Regional Office (ERO) in Spokane, WA is looking to fill two Site Manager (Hydrogeologist 2) positions.

These positions provide hydrogeologic and site management support to the Toxics Cleanup Program (TCP) Eastern Regional Office. The positions apply hydrogeologic and scientific principles toward the investigation and cleanup of sites with petroleum contaminated soil and groundwater from Leaking Underground Storage Tanks as well as other contaminated sites.

Professional responsibilities include front-line site manager duties, involving the protection of human health and environment, producing and evaluating hydrogeologic elements of environmental remedial action work. The positions provide environmental hydrogeologic advisement to the staff and supervisor. A core program objective of the position is to “Protect, Preserve and Enhance Washington’s Environment” and “Clean up Pollution” by achieving the timely and progressive remediation of contaminated sites in accordance with the Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA).

Some of the key work activities include:

• Performs as a regional-office Toxics Cleanup Program (TCP) hydrogeologist.
• Serves as a MTCA Site Manager. Implements all aspects of the MTCA regulation.
• Reviews and comments on investigation, hydrogeologic, technical reports, as well as detailed plans & specifications.
• Independently and proactively coordinates and provides technical support and guidance. All work is performed under the technical review of a Hydrogeologist 3 or equivalent.
• Conducts effective communication with liable parties and associated government entities.
• Confers directly and actively with colleagues and managers-project partnering with staff and management.
• Executes and manages consulting and construction contracts, including drilling projects.

A bachelor’s degree involving major study in geology, hydrogeology, hydrology, or a closely allied field.

AND

Two years of professional level experience as a hydrogeologist, geologist or closely allied field.

OR

One year experience as a Hydrogeologist 1.

A Master’s degree with major study in one of the above fields will substitute for two years of the required experience.
