This is a volunteer opportunity offered through a partnership with the Washington Service Corps AmeriCorps Program to begin September 1, 2015. The AmeriCorps member will receive a stipend through the Washington Service Corps. This opportunity is contingent on funding. Sponsoring Organization: Nisqually Land Trust Nisqually Land Trust Mission: The Nisqually Land Trust acquires and manages critical lands to permanently benefit the water, wildlife, and people of the Nisqually River Watershed. Location: Nisqually Land Trust office, which is located on the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge at 100 Brown Farm Road; Olympia WA 98516; and Land Trust properties throughout the Nisqually Watershed in Thurston, Pierce, and Lewis counties. Project Description: As the Nisqually Land Trust Volunteer Coordinator, the AmeriCorps member will focus on engaging South Puget Sound community members in implementing the mission of the Land Trust. The Nisqually Watershed stretches from glaciers on the southwest side of Mount Rainier to the Nisqually Reach in South Puget Sound. The Land Trust is a local non-profit organization that protects and manages over 5,000 acres in the watershed. Management of these properties includes monitoring, maintenance, and in some cases implementation of process-based habitat restoration projects. Volunteer Coordinator Responsibilities: The AmeriCorps member tasks will include recruiting individual volunteers and community partner organizations; training and supporting volunteers involved in community outreach and environmental stewardship activities; developing and implementing volunteer procedures and training workshops; hosting a volunteer recognition event; and maintaining the volunteer database. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with and/or training in volunteer program administration Enthusiasm about recruiting and supporting volunteers Outgoing personality with ability to engage with new people easily Communicate in a positive, professional manner and work well in a team environment Experience participating in outreach at community events Ability to work independently and keep multiple tasks organized Excellent document preparation, reporting, and record-keeping skills Computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook Physically able to conduct field work in a variety of weather conditions College degree, with background in natural resources management Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle and auto insurance (NLT will provide mileage reimbursement) First Aid and CPR certification AmeriCorps Requirements: Must be 18-25 years of age at start of service term 10 1/2-month term of service, starting September 1, 2015 and ending July 15, 2016. Member must serve a minimum of 1,700 hours during the 10 ½ month term of service Complete and submit all necessary AmeriCorps paperwork and reports in a timely manner Complete and submit at least one article for the AmeriCorps ‘Stories of Service’ program each quarter Attend all required AmeriCorps training and orientation events; and achieve the core competency trainings Must have high school diploma, GED or commit to obtaining one during the term of service U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident Member may have part-time job or attend school provided it doesn’t interfere with schedule set at site AmeriCorps Member Benefits: A taxable, monthly stipend of $1,155 provided by Washington Service Corps Upon successful completion of a full term of service, eligible members receive an educational award of $5,645 provided by the National Service Trust Student loan forbearance (on qualifying loans) Basic health insurance (covers members only, not dependents; vision and dental not included) Childcare assistance (if qualified) Training and experience To apply: Applications will be accepted through June 5, 2015.
