Position Summary

This is a full-time, 35 hours per week position located in one of Washington’s coastal communities (e.g. Aberdeen/Hoquiam, Port Angeles, Raymond/South Bend, Port Townsend). The Washington Coast Conservation Coordinator works to develop and steward community relationships critical to the ongoing management and stewardship of The Nature Conservancy’s conservation projects in the region.

This position includes the following functions:

• Builds and sustains strong working relationships with community leaders from the fisheries, timber, shellfish, and maritime sectors
• Fosters productive relationships with coastal tribes (Makah, Quileute, Hoh, Quinault, Chehalis) that lead to improved conservation strategies and increased conservation results
• Serves as a strong and trusted advocate for TNC by participating in local, regional and tribal planning processes and economic development associated with shoreline land use, water quality, coastal hazard mitigation and resilience, and fisheries management
• Catalyzes new sources of conservation funding (e.g., Washington Coast Restoration Initiative) by working with partner organizations to build and fill a pipeline of conservation projects and political support
• Serves as a valued liaison with the regional salmon recovery efforts, watershed planning groups, and Marine Resource Committees to increase outcomes of projects and develop financial support
• Represents TNC in public forums on local, state, tribal, and federal decisions affecting the coastal and marine environment
• Links TNC staff to valued public officials and leaders of partner organizations
• Develops and maintains a detailed working knowledge of the coast landscape, including its estuaries, confluences, and nearshore marine habitats, as well as the economic activities that occur in and depend on these areas
• Manages and facilitates meetings and workshops, as needed, to obtain community and stakeholder input

• Prepares contract materials and administers contracts with outside vendors, as needed

Desired Skills & Experience

Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years experience in natural resource management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
