ABOUT BEF™ and its Renewable Energy Group: At BEF, we are passionate about helping our partners move innovative renewable energy projects forward. By serving as an expert advisor, project consultant, and funder we explore cutting-edge technologies and support innovative project financing models to expand the implementation, replication, and expansion of on-site renewable energy projects.
The Renewable Energy Group focuses on increasing the amount of small-scale renewable energy generation installed in the service areas of Northwest public utilities, as well as providing renewable energy expertise to a wide variety of BEF clients. We bring a wealth of expertise in small-scale, community-based and commercial-scale renewable energy project development to every partner relationship, including involvement in more than 225 photovoltaic solar installations throughout the country.
ROLE OVERVIEW: Under the direction of the VP, Renewable Energy Group, the Project Manager manages a subset of BEF’s renewable energy project installations. He/she oversees all aspects of project installation to ensure completion within time and budget constraints. The Project Manager works collaboratively with BEF and REG teams to evaluate and improve the project management process and associated resources. The Project Manager oversees the development, contracting, construction, and monitoring for a variety of renewable energy projects.
PREREQUISITE EXPERIENCE:
• A minimum of 3 years of project management experience (required)
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as engineering, architecture or construction management with a focus on renewable energy technology or sustainable development (required)
• Direct experience managing the design and installation of photovoltaic systems (preferred)
• Experience writing construction contracts and construction specifications (preferred)
• Experience designing photovoltaic systems (preferred)
• Experience with data acquisition systems and integration with low voltage networks (preferred)
PREREQUISITE SKILLS:
• Passion for the BEF mission, renewable energy, and innovation in the energy field
• Self motivated with an entreprenuerial spirit, able to lead projects and people and inspire others in the renewable energy community
• Ability to demonstrate and provide examples of continuous personal development and improvement in each of the essential functions
• Ability to foster and build partnerships with a variety of stakeholders, including funders, utilities, grantees, contractors and industry leaders
• Ability to think innovatively and strategically about—and participate in—advancing the long-term goals and development of the program
• Ability to create an organizational structure for a project, utilize information management systems, and create and adhere to project completion timelines and budgets
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, including the enlisting of vendors, subcontractors, and other specialists to support operations and process improvement
• Technical ability to draft accurate, detailed schematics of photovoltaic systems
• Familiarity with commercial electrical systems, code compliance, and common engineering practices
• Excellent attention to detail, communication, and construction documentation skills using MS Office Suite and ERP systems
• Proficiency with graphic design software such as Google SketchUp and Adobe Creative Suite
• Ability to operate basic hand tools and power tools
• Ability to embrace new challenges in a rapidly growing and changing work environment
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Program Operations
• Manage a variety of renewable energy projects and programs, including but not limited to:
o Communication of project status to project partners
o Coordination of project logistics between relevant project parties, including funding partners, site hosts, contractors, utilities, information technology professionals, and equipment manufacturers
o Oversee the work of contractors, suppliers and/or vendors as necessary in the course of managing specific projects and other efforts.
o Site survey and project feasibility
o Project budgeting
o Bidding
o Contracting (installer and host)
o Oversight of system installation
o Tax credit and financial incentives investigation and attainment
• Provide support oversight of BEF’s various technology platforms with partner-vendors including:
o REG’s Drupal-based web resources and associated energy data APIs
o Energy logging devices from various energy data monitoring providers
o All aspects of REG’s energy display kiosks
• In partnership and collaboration with site hosts, manage operations and maintenance for existing BEF energy projects on an as needed basis
• Utilize cross-functional services, such as marketing, contracts and administration in an effective manner
• Process project invoices and construction contracts
• Complete other tasks as assigned by the VP, Renewable Energy Group
Leadership
• Work with REG staff to develop and execute the vision for the Renewable Energy program
• Act as an Ambassador for BEF and REG, representing the organization and program to a wide variety of external audiences
• Foster and maintain positive relationships with a variety of constituents including funders, grantees, utilities, contractors, and industry leaders
