Greetings!

As I announced at last week’s faculty meeting, the Writing Center is sponsoring a Cultivating Voice Information Session on Wednesday, February 17th from 1:30-2:30 p.m. on the Olympia campus. This is an opportunity for students to learn about the 2-credit course which is a prerequisite to the Writing Center’s fall internship program and possible future employment as a writing tutor. The session will feature how to obtain a faculty signature and an opportunity to speak with current tutors about their experiences working in the Center.

The Writing Center seeks thoughtful communicators from all disciplines, backgrounds, and identities who appreciate the challenges and thrills of meeting with writers during all stages of the writing process and all genres of writing. Each year I learn that a faculty or staff member’s encouragement has been the difference for some students’ decision to pursuing this opportunity.

Alumni/ae tutors often report back to me that their experience in the Writing Center was one of the most formative and enjoyable of their college years. Skills tutors acquire in the Center transfer extremely well to post-graduate opportunities in teaching, social work, counseling, journalism, and numerous other venues. Two of our recent graduates currently are the Executive Director of the Washington Student Association and a national facilitator for StoryCorps.

Interested students may contact the Writing Center at 867-6420 or tescwriting@gmail.com with any questions. Students can find Cultivating Voice application materials, useful handouts on a variety of topics, and our new Inkwell Digital Archives of essays about writing from the past ten years at our website: www.evergreen.edu/writingcenter.

The deadline for application materials is Friday, March 4th by 5pm. Please note: THIS IS THE ONLY OPPORTUNITY TO BECOME A WRITING CENTER TUTOR FOR THE 2015-16 ACADEMIC YEAR.

I appreciate your support in helping us discover the next generation of tutors.

Best,

Sandy
