There is one (1) Environmental Health Specialist I position in the Public Health and Social Services Environmental Health Division’s Solid and Hazardous Waste Program.
This position analyzes environmental health practices and policies to interpret and enforce health codes and laws. Provides education and enforcement in order to improve conditions that might otherwise lead to pollution and/or disease transmission.
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Investigate solid and hazardous waste complaints;
- Conduct technical assistance to businesses;
- Understand, interpret, and enforce the Sanitary Code and the Department of Ecology rules;
- Conduct a specific environmental study by gathering data from field or library research;
- Evaluate data;
- Prepare formal reports;
- Use measuring devices and testing equipment and
- Conduct public education.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental health, biology, bacteriology or related field.
- One year of professional environmental health work experience requiring extensive public contact.
- Must have current Washington State Driver’s License.
The ideal candidate will have the following experience to be able to function efficiently in this position:
- Experience in business related inspections
- Experience in hazardous waste identification and handling
