Position: Coastal monitoring and analysis

Description: This IP position involves the collection of beach and nearshore morphology data that will help Ecology and other science and management organizations understand the physical changes of the southwest Washington coast. In addition, we are performing work on Puget Sound beaches to help develop strategies for habitat restoration and bluff stabilization techniques that enable environmental enhancements. All of our work is used to support sound coastal and land-use decision-making with an aim toward environmental protection or restoration. The person in this IP position will spend approximately one third of their time in the field and the remainder of the time doing project support work (e.g., data processing, equipment maintenance, sediment lab analysis, volunteer projects, database work, GIS-support, and project documentation) at Ecology Headquarters in Lacey, WA. Department of Ecology Sustainability

Individual Placement

Position: Education and Outreach

Description: This IP position involves with Ecology’s Climate Policy group, Ecology’s Headquarters facility managers, Ecology’s Sustainability Team and Ecology’s Food Bank Garden. Work with the Climate Policy group includes assisting with analysis of data about state government’s greenhouse gas emissions and climate change education and outreach to other state agencies, Ecology employees and the public. Work with facilities includes education and outreach to Ecology employees about the Lacey building’s energy saving features and collection of building performance data to prepare the facility to be LEED re-certified. Work with Ecology’s Sustainability Team includes assisting in planning educational events for Ecology employees. This IP is responsible for coordinating volunteers to plant, maintain and harvest Ecology’s Food Bank Garden and will work with the Thurston County Food Bank, Olympia Kiwanis, Ecology’s Sustainability Team and the WCC.

South Puget Sound Salmon Enhancement Group

Individual Placement

Position: Education and Outreach

Description: The Salmon Education and Outreach Specialist works throughout Mason, Thurston, King, and Pierce Counties with some weekend and evening work required. The person in this position will also work with SPSSEG Project Managers on salmon restoration and monitoring projects and receive guidance from the Executive Director.
