There is currently a permanent Fish Hatchery Specialist 3 position in the Fish Program, Hatchery Division, Kendall Creek Hatchery. The duty station is located at 7100 Hatchery Road, Deming, WA. 98244 This Fish Hatchery Specialist 3 position supports the mission of WDFW by providing technical and scientific duties of both anadromous and inland fish rearing at the Kendall Creek Hatchery, along with other fish culture facilities within the Mt. Baker Complex when additional support needed. This position is responsible for efficient and effective operations while meeting production goals in order to provide fish for both harvest and conservation purposes. This position supports the mission by assisting the Operation Manager and Hatchery 4 in day to day facility operation and production programs for Kendall Creek Hatchery. |

Fish Culture Carries out sound fish culture practices to meet program goals. Identifies and communicates opportunities to improve fish culture practices. Projects and monitors fish growth and feed requirements. Monitors fish behavior and health. Actively seeks to learn new fish culture practices. Crew Leader Physical Operation and Maintenance of Facility Communications Data Collection, Entry and Reporting Working Conditions Due to the nature and remoteness of this position working hours can vary accordingly to what is happening at the facility on any particular day, for the most part the job is an 8-hour day from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. For this particular position standby is requires and that means this employee is responsible for overseeing the facility for the remaining 16 hours of the day during his time on standby, this position operates on a 10 on 4 off schedule. Qualifications: | |
One year of experience as a Fish Hatchery Specialist 2, OR an Associate’s degree in fisheries technology or closely allied field and two years of experience performing fish culture duties in a hatchery, OR a Bachelor’s degree in fisheries or closely allied field, OR successful completion of a fish culture program from a vocational school and two years of experience performing fish culture duties in a hatchery. Four years of experience performing a variety of fish culture duties in a hatchery will substitute for the Bachelor’s degree. A valid Washington State Driver’s License. | |
