The Environmental Assessment Program (EAP) is looking to fill an EAP EIM Data Coordinator (Environmental Specialist 3) position. The position is part-time, 24 hours per week and will be located in our Headquarters building in Lacey, WA.

The EAP EIM Data Coordinator position ensures that scientific data collected to assess environmental conditions is entered correctly into the agency’s environmental database, and is therefore available to guide environmental decisions. 

We are looking for candidates that are skilled and excited about working with large environmental datasets, who will diligently meet deadlines, and can provide excellent customer service regarding all aspects of our agency’s EIM (Environmental Information Management) data coordination process–from loading data when needed, to data quality control, to analyzing potential sources of the errors and fixing them.

The mission of the Department of Ecology is to protect, preserve and enhance Washington’s land, air and water for current and future generations.
 
The mission of the Environmental Assessment Program is to measure and assess environmental conditions in Washington State. 
 
Some of the key work activities of the EAP EIM Data Coordinator position include:

  • Providing quality checks on submitted datasets, and adhering to EIM business rules and standards. Working with EAP staff and/or external data submitters to correct any deficiencies, and when needed, loading complex datasets into EIM.
  • Leading or assisting with the migration of historical datasets into EIM.
  • Training new Environmental Assessment Program EIM users. Acting as the first point of contact and lead on assisting EAP staff with EIM data submittal requirements and process. Responding promptly to EIM questions.
  • Understanding how EAP staff are using the EIM applications, including editing, loading, and searching. Proactively suggesting improvements.
  • Participating with other EIM staff to develop EIM enhancements.
Please Note: This position is part-time, 24 hours per week.
The schedule is flexible during regular business hours (8am – 5pm, Monday – Friday).


Qualifications


Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree involving a major study in environmental, physical, or one of the natural sciences, environmental planning or other allied field and two (2) years of professional level experience in environmental analysis or control or environmental planning.

Additional qualifying experience will substitute, year for year, for education.

A Master’s degree in one of the above fields will substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.

OR

A Ph.D. in one of the above fields.

OR

One (1) year of experience as an Environmental Specialist 2.

Must have skills and aptitude in data management. Must have excellent attention to detail. Must have excellent familiarity with scientific monitoring data.
 

Desired Qualifications:

One (1) year experience in working with a large environmental database, including loading data and following quality assurance protocols.
