Communication and Outreach Coordinator

Thurston County Public Works is seeking a dynamic, mid-career Communication and Outreach Coordinator to assist with designing, developing, and deploying outreach campaigns and educational materials to meet the needs of the department and the residents of Thurston County.
Essential Job Functions- Internal Communication Plan – Work with Communication Committee to provide regular department communication including periodic updates and our quarterly employee newsletter.
- Website – Work with IT staff to keep the external website up to date, and create and maintain the Public Works internal SharePoint site.
- Publications – Work with managers to design, create and distribute publications regarding upcoming projects affecting the residents of Thurston County.
- Social Media – Work with IT staff to provide current project information that may affect travel time including road closures or weather events.
- Branding – Work with managers to ensure branding is consistent across Public Works materials.
- Annual Report – Help us tell and present our story in our annual report.
- Photography – Take pictures of our employees working in the field and in the office for our annual report and publications.
- Presentations – Assist in the preparation of presentations for Board of County Commissioners and other public meetings.
- Press Releases – Write press releases for emergency road closures, upcoming road closures and other public works activities.
- Budget – Establish and manage printing and publishing accounts with vendors.
- Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English and writing, education, or other closely related field.
- Must have four (4) years’ experience working in communication, marketing, journalism, or other related field promoting education, outreach, media campaign, public relations or other comparable experiences including one (1) year of experience with budget management or grant writing and administration, and lead or supervisory experience.
- Must have the ability to utilize a personal computer with related software to perform the essential functions of the position (i.e. Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Expression Web, Microsoft Office Programs).
- Current Washington State Driver’s License or have requested and obtained an appropriate accommodation.
