This position will perform the following work:

• Directs and supports statewide planning work within the division: Statewide Public Transportation Plan, Statewide Human Services Transportation Plan, Intercity Bus Plan, Transportation Demand Management Plan and Statewide Commute Trip Reduction Strategic Plan.
• Lead efforts to integrate WSDOT’s public transportation interests in other state, regional and local plans.
• Oversee related consultant contracting efforts and consultant management activities.
• Coordinate with other work units, divisions, agencies and organizations to ensure continuity of goals and objectives in the area broadly defined as public transportation, alignment with planning and engineering principals and methods and compliance with federal and state standards.
• Support the use of multimodal policies and best practices statewide by serving as multimodal consulting expert.
• Develop and provide multimodal and public transportation technical standards, processes, tools, training and engagement. Identify opportunities and barriers to adoption and address them.
• Provide consulting support to enhance the use of public transportation solutions in state, regional and local programs and projects.
• Support development of multimodal and public transportation-related policy with a focus on planning, scoping, programming and environmental project phases.
• Contribute to policy manual updates.
• Support research, methodology development, training and pilot projects that inform policy updates.
• Other work duties as assigned.

The requirements for this position are:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree involving major study in transportation; environmental, urban, regional or land use: planning; engineering; public or business administration; economics; or natural or physical sciences
• One year as a Transportation Planning Specialist 4, Transportation Engineer 4, or equivalent classification in city, county, regional or federal agencies.
• Five years’ professional transportation experience involving analysis and evaluation of transportation issues and problems.
• Analysis of environmental issues and problems that involve transportation issues will also be considered qualifying experience.

An ideal candidate for this position will have demonstrated experience:

• Working with multiple phases of transportation project and service delivery, e.g. planning, project development, environmental, design, construction, service planning, operations, maintenance.
• Working with federal, slate, regional and local agencies.
• Leading multiagency, multidisciplinary teams to achieve results.
• Developing, publishing and implementing technical and procedural transportation policy.
