is searching for a
Project Assistant / Phd student (30 h/week)
(Employment for the period of 36 months; position to be filled at the earliest possible date)
Job Description/Responsibilities:
The position is embedded in the ER4CS-AXIS project
DIRT-X: Evaluating sediment Delivery Impacts on Reservoirs in changing climate and society across scales and sectors

The overall project focus is on the potential increase of erosion and sediment transport in catchments where the excess of sediment could lead to losses in reservoir storage. Consequences such as higher demands for resources due to altered operation, changes in reservoir services to society such as hydropower production are analyzed.
In the Austrian part of the project, the focus is on alpine catchments as test cases. Therein, a mix of monitoring and modelling based approaches are to be applied, aiming to assess current sediment fluxes and their future changes. Duties in frame of the project are
Covering the relevant aspect with regard to scientific approach set in the project
Publication of outcomes in reports and scientific journals; Presentations at project meetings and conferences
Support in the project administration
Travelling to project meetings, workshops and conferences
We offer the possibility to conduct a PhD in Technical Science (condition for the admission are separate from this position – see https://www.uibk.ac.at/studium/anmeldung-zulassung/doktoratsstudium/)
Required qualifications:
Master degree relating to the fields of Hydrology, Sediment transport and management, Water and/or Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering or any equivalent
Knowledge in hydrology and / or sediment transport or willingness to acquire
High motivation, teamwork capabilities and communication skills (written and oral)
Excellent knowledge In English
German language is beneficial as interaction with stakeholders is part of the project
Background in sediment transport and/or hydrological / hydraulic modelling
Programming skills (e.g. Matlab, Python, R), experience with GIS systems is advantageous
Salary:
The minimum gross salary (stipulated by collective agreement) for this position amounts to € 2.148,40- per month (14 times – 30h/week). Furthermore, the University of Innsbruck has numerous attractive offers (http://www.uibk.ac.at/universitaet/zusatzleistungen/).
