We invite you to join us for the second Annual Orca Recovery Day- October 19th. This year the Thurston Conservation District is partnering with the City of Olympia to put on an event on Budd Inlet at West Bay Park. In its second year, this is one of over 40 events happening state-wide on the same day. Our community’s concern about the health of our Southern Resident Killer Whales and the vital salmon that feed them is evident, and we hope you can join us in raising awareness, working in our community, and learning about actionable steps we can all take to be a part of the solution.

At this year’s Annual Orca Recovery Day Event volunteers will participate in restoring land along Budd Inlet by pulling weeds, re-planting areas with native shoreline plants, mulching, pruning, and pulling invasive blackberries. This event is children friendly and all ability levels are welcome to join.

Lunch, tools, gloves and refreshments will be provided. Dress for the weather, and remember to wear sturdy shoes. Volunteers are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle. Youth under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult and youth under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian signed waiver.

We encourage participants to show up by bike, on foot, in a carpool, or using the public transit system! The Intercity Transit 45 bus line runs on Rogers & Bowman, right by the West Side Food Co-Op, and you can walk down the Garfield Nature Trail or the Bowman Hill to join our event. If you use an alternate form of transportation to attend our event, you’ll be entered in a raffle!
