ABOUT OXBOW FARM & CONSERVATION CENTER
Located on 240 acres of forest and grassland bordered by Western Washington’s Snoqualmie River, Oxbow’s mission is to inspire people to eat healthy, sustainably grown food and to steward our natural resources for future generations. We have recently adopted a ten-year vision to dramatically increase our impact and reach, and to diversify our sources of funding. We seek to become a vibrant hub for inspiration and learning, known for our creative and engaging year-round programming—a source for real-time practices that promote climate resilience and excite people to make choices in support of healthy food and a sustainable environment. We are seeking a senior-level Director of Programs to join the leadership team as we embark on these ambitious plans.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Programs will drive key operational and administrative functions to ensure Oxbow has the infrastructure needed to drive the organization’s success and impact. They will bring extensive nonprofit executive leadership experience and a demonstrated record of managing and enhancing the administration of a high-performing organization. The successful Director of Programs is a creative problem-solver who thrives on identifying solutions and focusing on what’s possible while facilitating strong collaboration and communication across the organization. They will bring strong emotional intelligence, authenticity, and a proven ability to help individuals and teams achieve their full potential.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Programs will collaborate with the Executive Director and Director of Business Development in setting and driving organizational vision, strategy, operations, and reporting. The Director of Programs is responsible for operationalizing all programmatic functions – they will take the mission and vision from ideas to execution. The Director of Programs internal focus will allow the Executive Director to engage externally with critical community partners and funders.
- Serve as a member of the Executive Team and supervise the Farm, Native Plant Nursery, Education and Conservation Managers.
- Translate strategy into actionable goals for performance and growth, helping to implement organization-wide goal setting, performance management, and annual operating planning.
- Develop actionable strategies and plans that ensure alignment with short-term and long-term objectives developed in tandem with the Executive Director and Oxbow’s Board.
- Provide strategic insights as to where the organization needs to improve to ensure high-quality and consistent delivery to achieve goals.
- Define and direct how program activities create large-scale, coordinated impact.
- Define and direct how Oxbow’s programs operate and relate to one another.
- Anticipate and plan for strategic shifts, and facilitate subsequent shifts in programs and priorities.
- Galvanize the team toward our shared mission, and support staff in aligning their teams with the organization’s highest priorities.
- Balance long-term initiatives with timely opportunities to create rapid impact.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years of relevant professional experience (e.g., nonprofit or mission-based operations, program management, or other senior level leadership)
- Demonstrated track-record of developing strategy and managing growth for mission-based organizations
- Demonstrated success with developing and executing impactful partnerships
- Demonstrated effectiveness in leading, managing, and building capacity of high-performing teams
- Knowledge and experience in budget management and fiscal oversight for teams/departments
- Exceptional organizational skills, with an ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
- Willingness to accept feedback; devotion to continuous growth
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Self-starter; able to take initiative in the face of ambiguity, create alignment of key constituencies and drive to action
- Fluent working in Microsoft suite (Office 365, Word, Excel, Powerpoint).

COMPENSATION
This is a regular, full-time position, with a competitive compensation package, including 100% employer paid healthcare, annual dental stipend, generous holiday, vacation, and sick leave. Salary depends on qualifications.
