Join Edible Forest Gardens to establish an Edible Forest Garden at the new Urban Permaculture Demonstration Houseat 3439 14th Ave. NW May 26 & 27.
You are invited to help plant fruit and nut trees and berry bushes then sheet mulch the lawn by putting down cardboard and wood chips to remove the grass. Edible Forest Gardens consist of three main layers, with fruit and nut trees as the upper canopy, berries and other edible bushes as the middle layer and perennial vegetables and fruits as the ground cover.
The FREE workshop includes:
~ Design and layout of trees and shrubs in an edible forest garden
~ Planting trees and shrubs
~ Sheet mulching lawn ~ Making a Hugelkultur
SATURDAY 10 am to 4 pm:
10 am Planting Edible Trees and Shrubs – taking tape off cardboard
12:00 pm Discussion of Edible Forest Forest Gardens
12:30 pm Lunch
2 pm Sheet mulching
SUNDAY 10 am to 4 pm:
10 am Finish up sheet mulching (all day)
12 pm Circle and discussion about whats been learned and forest garden basics
12:30 pm Lunch
1:30 pm Make Hugelkulturs
We will be there from 10 AM until 4 PM each day with potluck lunches. Feel free to come for both full days, half days or just stop by when you can. This hands on workshop will show what you too could do in your own yard. We hope that neighborhood planning could lead to a number of forest gardens throughout Olympia neighborhoods.
DONATIONS NEEDED and WELCOME:
a.. WOODCHIPS: Maple, alder, willow, etc. NO CEDAR. Call Pat 509-669-1549 about delivery.
