See BelowUSGBC is seeking an ambitious and detail-oriented individual with education in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or other relevant subjects, and an interest in the field of non-profit public relations and communications to support its Marketing team during the summer of 2012.

The duties of the Marketing & Communications Summer Associate will include working with reporters, compiling media clips, writing for print and web, updating USGBC’s websites and blogs, as well as designing graphics and marketing materials.

This individual will be encouraged to participate in planning meetings and contribute their ideas to marketing & communications plans and initiatives. Candidates must be professional, enjoy working in a team, feel comfortable working with a diverse range of people, and be available to work in USGBC’s Washington, D.C. office.

Responsibilities Include

  • Write articles for trade publications, reporter pitches, website content, etc.
  • Update the USGBC.org websites and blogs with fresh content and images
  • Contribute to graphic design and marketing initiatives for print and online
  • Work with reporters to provide them LEED project data, background, and coordinate interviews
  • Use Vocus and BurrellesLuce to compile relevant media clips
  • Manage the press contacts database
  • Participate in planning meetings and contribute to marketing and communications plans for major USGBC initiatives

Education & Training Requirements/Preferences

  • Current enrollment in undergraduate or graduate program required
  • Major or specialization in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, English, Business; or relevant experience preferred

Experience Requirements

  • Previous work experience in a marketing or communications position is preferred but not required

Other Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
  • Strong writing and communications skills
  • Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator strongly preferred
  • HTML skills strongly preferred
